Identifier

Actors

 Students, Researchers, GIS-Team Members, Professors

Goal

Actors can choose whether the result of a “query” is expressed as a summary statistic (mean, median, min, max, etc.) or as a percentage of total population

Preconditions

Actor should have an account if the iDataMap system or as guest.

Post conditions

None

Assumptions

One of the variables that the actor has selected represents a set of numeric values that can be summarized.

Frequency

Weekly for each user

Basic Course

  1. Actor select data sources
  2. Actor selects the geography area and geographical boundaries.
  3. Actor selects a category of data from which he or she wants to select variables
  4. The iDataMap system fills a control box with a list of variables for that category.
  5. Actor chooses a variable with which to build a query on the data source that the actor selected.
  6. Actor repeats steps 2-6 to add more variables to the query
  7. If one of the variables has a range of numeric values associated with it, the actor has the option of clicking a check box to request iDataMap to display the results of the query as a summary statistic of all households that meet all of the query criteria.
  8. The iDataMap system displays a list of summary operations (mean, median, min, etc.) that can be performed on the variable.

Alternate Course A: none

Condition:

If the actor does not click the summary statistic box, the result of the query will be displayed as the percentage of the population of each geographical area that meets all of the query criteria.
